This was 'Thou shall not KILL' in the Old Testament. The word 'Kill' means 'killing any living being'. Some intellectuals, over a period of time, changed it to 'You shall not murder' while the word 'murder includes 'humans only'.

Spiritual knowledge has often been given in analogies too which have been taken literally by the intellectuals and the translators, thus changing the entire meaning of the teachings originally imparted.
